Open the conversation

Personal protective equipment is the last layer between an employee and an exposure. It needs to match the task, fit the person, remain in usable condition, and be worn as intended.

Three points to discuss

  1. Use the equipment identified for the task and ask when the work or exposure has changed.
  2. Inspect PPE before use and remove damaged, contaminated, expired, or unreliable equipment from normal availability.
  3. Store reusable PPE where it can stay clean, dry, protected, and available to the people who need it.

Ask the team

  • Which PPE item is most likely to be missing, damaged, shared improperly, or difficult to replace?
  • Does the available size and fit work for everyone expected to use it?
  • What task change would require the PPE decision to be reviewed?
One floor observation

Review one PPE storage point and one active task. Compare what is available, its condition, and how it is actually being used.

Close the huddle

PPE should support the task without creating uncertainty. Report fit, condition, selection, or availability problems before exposure.
